“Experiments to dim sunlight to fight global warming will be given the green light by the Government within weeks. Outdoor field trials which could include injecting aerosols into the atmosphere or brightening clouds to reflect sunshine, are being considered by scientists as a way to prevent runaway climate change. Aria, the Government’s advanced research and invention funding agency, has set aside $66.6 million for projects, which will be announced in the coming weeks. Prof Mark Symes, the program director for Aria (Advanced Research and Invention Agency), said there would be ‘small controlled outdoor experiments on particular approaches’.” |

Turns out you can have pristine, lab-grade water without busting out a toolkit. Waterdrop’s CoreRO C1S plops onto your counter, purifies like a boss, and politely flushes itself. It filters out 1,000+ nasties including lead, PFAS, chlorine, and that suspicious cloudiness you tried to ignore. Your hydration game? About to level up with zero effort. Just in time for Mother’s Day — and ahead of sweaty summer survival season — it’s the kind of gift Mom will actually use (and not secretly return). [Ad] |

“The Jeff Bezos-backed Slate debuted this week as an affordable, low-tech electric pickup truck company with a focus on customization and a unique tech approach. The truck will start around $27,000, or $20,000 after the federal tax credit (if the administration doesn't kill it), and be available in 2026, TechCrunch reports. You can reserve one now for a $50 refundable fee. Shoppers customize a basic, bare-bones template. Early renderings don't show a dash screen or even a radio. Just physical buttons for key controls and places to put your own phone, iPad, or speaker — ‘bring your own’ (BYO) tech. There is an odometer, however.” |

“Duolingo will ‘gradually stop using contractors to do work that AI can handle,’ according to an all-hands email sent by cofounder and CEO Luis von Ahn announcing that the company will be ‘AI-first.’ The email was posted on Duolingo’s LinkedIn account. According to von Ahn, being ‘AI-first’ means the company will ‘need to rethink much of how we work’ and that ‘making minor tweaks to systems designed for humans won’t get us there.’ As part of the shift, the company will roll out ‘a few constructive constraints,’ including the changes to how it works with contractors, looking for AI use in hiring and in performance reviews, and that ‘headcount will only be given if a team cannot automate more of their work.’” |
