Policy gaps, green tugs & air taxis: What moved this week!

Hello Readers,
India has one of the world’s biggest rail networks but also one that is operated entirely by the government. The Indian Railways’ passenger service is the lifeline of the country’s transportation system carrying more than 30 million passengers daily.

While almost all the transportation services in the country have seen entry of the private sector leading to efficiencies and comfort for passengers, Indian Railways is yet to see successful private participation.

An effort undertaken a few years ago to enable entry to the private sector for undertaking passenger train services was unsuccessful and the process led to a bad experience for the entities which were involved.
