Before we get you to an incredible collection of fresh reporting (below) some food for thought. When the NewFronts first started, back when JT still looked like he did in the above GIF, they were all about digital-first, internet publishers looking to create a little noise and get themselves a little taste of all those massive linear bucks. Only now, as brands jockey for first position in the fragmented customer journey, the NewFronts have become a paean to the power of the TV OEM’s own operating systems. Not just because their home screens are the first thing people see when they turn their TVs on, or because the OS drives the currents by which people cruise from service to service. Not just because the their operarting systems are now loaded with all sorts of free ad-supported content. Not just because they can use data to create dynamic personalized journeys and content hubs. Not just because the connected TV can serve as a gateway to commerce. All those things, together, matter bigly, and they’re why the OEMs are now the belles of the NewFronts ball. In a world of increasing isolation, where we disappear into our phones at stop lights, bus stops and during endless Zoom calls, the TV is still the one device that actually brings people together rather than pushing them further apart. So while networks can pitch ad experiences against Taylor Sheridan and even Taylor Swift, it is the TV manufacturers who can deliver all those unsexy moments that make up the bulk of life the way we live it, the moments that make up our shared experiences.
