Every business owner needs to have a higher purpose If you’re in entrepreneurship just to make money, then eventually the business will start to feel lifeless. Don’t get me wrong, I am in business to make as much money as possible. Making money is absolutely the mission for me. But financial security and a higher purpose can both exist together. Today, I will break down my purpose in hopes that you can discover one for yourself. LFG. 🔥 The Drive Home From Santa FeQuick story. On Friday, we drove to Santa Fe for a weekend getaway to celebrate my birthday. Saturday morning, Jules and The Sweet Girl both got extremely sick with Norovirus. So after Jules got out of the hospital, we hopped back in the Jeep and drove home. Needless to say, the birthday trip did not go as planned. 😑 On the drive home, everyone was passed out and I listened to a great podcast. It was an interview with David Burks. In the interview, Burks spoke about his higher mission, and I spent the entire drive thinking about what mine is. Here’s what I came up with. 1. Make Business Within ReachI didn’t grow up learning about business. I was entrepreneurial in that I started a contracting business, and before that, a lawn cutting business, but my mindset was still “put in the hours and get paid.” That’s not what entrepreneurship is. Entrepreneurship is about scaling your time. It wasn’t until I got sober and decided I wanted to be an entrepreneur that I started learning how the art of business actually works. My partner Bryan also helped teach me the basics of investing. I got lucky. I was at the right place at the right time. Most people don’t experience entrepreneurship in this way. Most people feel like business and entrepreneurship are still some pipe dream that is out of reach. I want to bring this down to earth so regular people and blue collar people like me can look at business and think, “if he can do it, then I can do it.” 2. Make Business ApproachableNinety nine percent of business education is just marketing. I get it. I’ve built many of my companies (including this one) by creating helpful content, leveraging that content to build an audience, and then selling directly to my audience through email. I’m not hating on the game. I’m just recognizing that most educational content is purposefully lacking because creators leave out just enough information to make the consumer feel like they need to buy a course or product. Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with this tactic. But I want to do it different. I want to overeducate. I want to share everything I know. In doing so, I’ll find the people who trust me enough to buy my products anyway. So many of the gurus make business seem esoteric and complicated. But it’s not. Business is simple, and part of my mission is to simplify the delivery of education so regular people don’t feel intimidated or insecure. 3. Turn People Into Sales PeopleEvery business owner is actually in charge of two companies. There is the business itself, and then there is the act of selling the business. They are not the same. Without question, the most common question I get inside The Launchpad is “how do I get more customers?” It’s one thing to have a skill to bring to the marketplace. It’s another thing entirely to turn that skill into money. This is where sales come in, and almost no one takes the time to deliberately learn the skill of selling. I’ve said before, one of the best things to ever happen to me was stumbling across a phone sales job when I first moved to Florida. I was shy, awkward, and knew nothing about sales. But I was so broke and hungry that I just NEEDED to figure it out. It was the only way I could find to make money. I became obsessed and forced myself to learn. Without that job, who knows where I would be? Once again, I got lucky and my higher power gave me what I needed and not what I wanted. That sales job built the foundation for me for the next decade. Sales is not about charisma or being a smooth talker. Sales is about listening and following a process. That’s why The Sales Training is so important. It turns people from freelancers into business owners. I promise, learning sales is not as scary as you think. I am determined to help people understand that. Love you guys. Talk to you tomorrow.
