Principal's Message

Dear Franklin Sherman ES Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the entire faculty and staff at Franklin Sherman, I extend our deepest gratitude for your incredibly generous donations today to stock our teacher's lounge for Teacher Appreciation Week! Your thoughtfulness in providing these wonderful treats and supplies truly means the world to our educators. It's gestures like these that make our school community so special and demonstrate the amazing support you consistently provide. Thank you for helping us make this week extra special for our hardworking teachers.

As Teacher Appreciation Week continues, I also want to send a friendly reminder to please take a moment to thank your child's teacher. A simple note, a heartfelt "thank you," or even a small gesture of appreciation can go a long way in acknowledging their dedication, passion, and the countless ways they positively impact our students' lives each and every day. Let's all work together to make this a truly memorable week for our incredible teachers!

Sincerely,

Farris Thomas

The Green Scene

green scene students working in the garden

Despite storms in the forecast last Friday, they held off and we made progress in planting corn for our Three Sisters Gardens in two of our raised vegetable beds. We also got some Sunflower seeds planted near the front gate. Parent volunteers did some weeding and discovered fabulous plants coming up, such as native Blue Indigo, two kinds of Milkweed, and even some Mint. It’s a wonderful space to learn in! Classes come out and water when time allows.

Please join us in the garden this Friday to assemble the last raised vegetable bed, weed, plant more seeds, and spruce up our other beds!

Email Ms.Eaton, Art Teacher, at lreaton@fcps.edu if you plan to attend. Parents must accompany their children. We would love to have you and appreciate all the help we have gotten so far!

Our Green Scene club meets on Tuesday mornings at 8:15am. Students need a permission slip, just email Ms. Eaton, Mrs. Essimi rmessimimen@fcps.edu, or Ms. Michalski rlmichalski@fcps.edu.

McLean Pyramid Book Talk

The McLean Pyramid Principals presented information to our community last week about effective strategies for deep learning, remembering, and preparing for tests.  Here are the slides from that presentation.  The information was based on the book Learn Like a Pro by Barbara Oakley.  The McLean Pyramid Principals look forward to more opportunities of this nature for the 2025-26 school year.

Reporting All Day Absences

FCPS has created clearer guidance for reporting attendance.  Please use  using one of the methods below:

  • ParentVUE: Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, parents or legal guardians can submit up to two consecutive full-day absences using SIS ParentVUE. Learn more about attendance reporting through ParentVUE on the FCPS website: fcps.edu/attendance.
  • Call the school's attendance line at 703-506-7979.
