As the school year winds down, let’s celebrate our amazing 7th graders! Families are invited to join us at Thoreau Middle School on Wednesday, May 14th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM for an evening of food, fun, and community.
Admission is free, and this year’s event features three delicious food trucks:

Tony’s Ice Cream (sweet treats)
Come hungry and show your support for these great partners!
The night will also include a mix of fun, casual games for all ages—from Giant Jenga and pop-in party games to a King/Queen of the Table UNO Tournament. Whether you stay for 30 minutes or all three hours, there’s something for everyone.
Please note: this is a family event—students must attend with a parent or guardian.

We’re planning a special raffle to honor our amazing 8th grade students—and we need your help! Please consider donating a gift card to make this celebration extra memorable.

Please consider joining our Thoreau PTA. Memberships are $15 for one adult and $25 for a family membership for two adults. Anyone can be a member - teachers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Memberships are tax-deductible.

Are you interested in volunteering with the Thoreau PTA? There are plenty of opportunities to help with staff appreciation events, social events such as Crosstown Hoops, our grade level events, and so much more. Please fill out this form to let us know!

Donate to Support Your Students!
We would appreciate a one-time donation of $50 per family, but are thrilled to receive any and all contributions. Donations are tax-deductible, and 100% of your contribution goes directly back to supporting our Thoreau Middle School students and staff. Your donations will help the PTA support our community throughout the 2023-2024 school year. Among other things, our Thoreau PTA:
- Organizes appreciation events for our teachers and staff regularly, such as pies at Thanksgiving and cookies before Winter Break
- Coordinates special events such as the 7th Grade Fall Social and 8th Grade End of Year Party
- Grants financial support to teachers and staff for classroom or program needs

Whether you are interested in trying out a sport new to you, or have wrestling experience, there is a spot for you at camp! The Oakton Wrestling Teams are hosting a summer camp for rising 3rd-9th grade boys AND girls the week of July 7-11, 9 AM - 3 PM. Any questions? The Oakton High School Dance Team’s annual Junior Dance Camp will be held June 24-26 (Tu-Th) from 8:30-12:30 at Oakton High School. Camp is open to rising 1st-8th graders from any school. Participants will learn choreography and technique with Dance Team members and will have the opportunity to perform at the end of camp on June 26! Oakton Theater will be performing "Into The Woods" on May 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th and 10th at 7 pm. There will also be a special matinee show on May 10th at 2 pm designed for younger attendees where only Act 1 will be performed and the actors will come greet and interact in character with attendees in the entryway to the theater.
