| Today, we continue the 10-issue series in which I discuss the most common problems that I see on each slide in founders’ pitch decks. Today’s issue will look at the solution slide. | What is the most common problem with the solution slide? | The solution slide is surprisingly one of the least important slides on your deck. It’s a slide that you must have and that must make sense, but very rarely are you going to convince investors because of the specific solution you have. The reason being that unless that investor is in your target market, they will rely much more on your traction slide and sales to tell them whether the solution adequately solves the problem than their own interpretation of the solution slide.
Additionally, the solution slide doesn’t dive into the type of details that a product slide does, so if an investor is actually in your target market, then they will care much more about the product slide. | I mention this because many founders spend most of their time focused on the solution slide. In fact, many founders say it is the slide they focus on the most. Given that the standard here is really just for it to make sense and nothing more, it shouldn’t be a slide you prioritize at all. | That being said you can’t mess it up even if the bar is low so you do need to avoid common mistakes. | | Want unlimited AI, ASAP? | | Get up to 6 months of Plus plan + unlimited AI free! | Launch and scale your startup faster with Notion. | Visit the Notion for Startups page to get the offer. | Get Notion AI for free | | What are the most common mistakes I see on the solution slide? | Not solving the problem - Your solution slide should be a 100% copy of your problem slide. All you do is delete the problem and type in the solution to that problem. That is it. Nothing more, nothing less. If you have three problems and one solution, then you’ve failed. Likewise, if you have one problem and three solutions, you’ve failed. This isn’t rocket science; if you’ve got a good problem slide, then investors are invested in solving those problems, so just show them the solution. Don’t overcomplicate it. Features over idea - The solution slide is NOT your product slide. This isn’t the place to list out all your features and brag about the capabilities of your product/service. This is just where you show the high-level way that you are addressing the problem. Don’t dive into features here, it will take away from your narrative and kill the flow of your deck.
