Friends and colleagues,
My latest article in Foreign Affairs, coauthored with Erik Jones, on the future of the transatlantic alliance:
https://www.foreignaffairs.com/europe/europes-two-front-war
At the end of a crazy spring, it seems that Trump's bullying may have finally gotten Europe to take security seriously, but at a fearsome cost in trust. Europeans now know they need to fend off aggressive great powers to both east and west and are starting to prepare.
I was following the story closely as a resident fellow at the American Academy in Berlin this spring (an absolutely extraordinary institution, btw). It was a hell of a ride, and for those interested in my evolving real-time take, the deck from a recent talk, "The Future of European Security: A Play in Three Acts" is available as a pdf here.
As always, all comments and feedback greatly appreciated. |
