Dear Garfield Families,
We hope your child’s summer is off to a fantastic start! We ended the 2025-2026 school year on a high note with so many joyful moments — Field Day, Sixth Grade Promotion, Band and Strings concerts, Career Day, Class Parties, and Step-Up Day, just to name a few. As we waved goodbye to our Eagles — some for a few months, and others for the very last time — our hearts were full. Thank you for being such an essential part of the Eagle Nest. Your support, encouragement, and partnership have made this school year truly special.
Below you’ll find helpful summer learning resources and important Save the Dates to keep in mind for next year.
We wish you a safe, restful, and joy-filled summer. We can’t wait to welcome you back in August…with heartfelt gratitude and Eagle pride!
Blessings and Joy,
Kerry Peerman, Principal
Liz Manning, Assistant Principal

Online Edmentum Targeted Instruction Grades 3-5 Skills Class

Students will be enrolled in courses by Edmentum with students from other schools and assigned to a one-hour session at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., or 1 p.m. by Edmentum.
Sessions will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from July 1 to August 7. Students will receive targeted instruction during these sessions in literacy. Online Summer Learning
FCPS has put together optional learning activities in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. These activities are available through our Summer Learning Resources webpage. Some applications require students to log in to their FCPS Google account. Google accounts are their student ID numbers followed by @fcpsschools.net .
The activities are grouped by grade level and match what students have learned in school this year. Families can use them anytime to review, practice, or explore new ideas at home. Resources include digital tools that students have used throughout the year such as Science A-Z, Pebble Go, MyOn, ST Math, and Benchmark Advance.
As a reminder, if you borrowed a laptop from Union Mill, they need to be returned to the school by July 30.
If you need technology support, please visit the Families: Tools and Technology page.
Summer Meals for Students
FCPS’ Summer Meal Service Program provides breakfast and lunch free of charge to all children aged 18 and younger. If you have any questions regarding the Summer 2025 meal service, please email SummerMeals@fcps.edu or call 703-813-4800.
