Community Feedback and Associated Changes
Thanks to everyone that joined us at the Douglas Park Civic Association meeting on May 20 and thanks to those that provided input in the most recent engagement. We appreciated the turnout, questions, and helpful input. The engagement results are available here.
Here’s what we heard—and what we’re doing:
-
Midblock entrance on S. Quincy? Staying put. We heard that the community values this entrance, so it’s staying right where it is.
-
Path at 16th St S and S. Quincy St? Adjusted. We’ll be shifting the planned path closer to the trees and fence to reduce impacts on the open grassy area. Our team will take special care to protect the critical root zones of nearby trees.
-
Chimney and concrete pad? Staying too. Based on community and DPCA requests, we’re keeping these features in place.
-
House at 4030 16th St. S? Coming down. Demolition is anticipated to take place in 2026, aligned with the start of broader project construction.
The final concept design also includes:
-
Upgraded trails to improve accessibility
-
A larger picnic pavilion with four tables and two grills
-
Additional picnic tables throughout the park
-
An improved path leading to the new bridge
- An improved ADA pathway with stairs to S. Stafford ST.
-
A new bridge as well as erosion control
-
A formal park entrance at S. Stafford Street with updated signage
The updated design below reflects these changes. We’ll continue to update the project page as the project moves forward. We expect construction to start in early 2026.
Thanks again for your input. If you have any additional final thoughts, please share them here.
