The cuts to HIV research funding prompted on-stage protests at the International AIDS Society conference in Kigali, Rwanda, on Monday evening. The protestors chanted "We will not be erased," and gave speeches airing concerns about governments and pharma companies, among others. The IAS said it welcomed protests and endorsed freedom of expression "as an essential principle to end the HIV pandemic as a threat to public health." Kyle LaHucik will have more updates from the meeting as the week progresses.
