R/V Manta is back in the sanctuary! 

R/V Manta is the sanctuary's offshore research vessel that is used primarily as a research platform, conducting research and monitoring activities in the waters in and around the sanctuary. R/V Manta went in for a much-needed shipyard period in late 2023 and the crew has been working to make sure the Manta is ready for this year's research season.

In preparation for the first mission of the year on the Manta, divers and crew conducted emergency action plans and rescue scenarios utilizing all equipment on board to ensure safety for both the vessel and crew. This week and next week, the Manta will go to East Flower Garden, West Flower Garden, McGrail, Rezack, and Sidner Banks.

Shark and Ray Awareness Day at Moody Gardens This past weekend, sanctuary staff and volunteers celebrated Shark and Ray Awareness Day at Moody Gardens. Visitors were excited to learn about the sharks and rays that call the sanctuary home. Thank you to the volunteers who made this event a success!
