What's the story? Bradley Murdoch's death presents an opportunity for a late break in Peter Falconio's cold case murder, a leading forensic anthropologist says. Murdoch died overnight on Wednesday, 24 years after he killed Mr Falconio and kidnapped Joanne Lees on a remote stretch of the Northern Territory's Stuart Highway in 2001. Criminologist Xanthe Mallett said, "a lot can have changed" in almost a quarter of a century, and "people may now be able to speak that couldn't at the time".

Little did she know at the time, it would become a cold case that would capture the world's attention. Murdoch was convicted of the murder in 2005 but key questions about what happened to Peter Falconio were never answered, including the location of his body.
