This year, retailers are prepping for their all-important fourth quarter at a time of uncertainty. Inventory management in general has been upended by tariffs, especially for those companies still using the retail inventory method. Consumer spending has remained somewhat resilient but cracks are showing, and economists warn that much of the impact of U.S. trade policy on the economy and prices is yet to come.
