If you want to predict which companies are headed toward unicorn status, look no further than Forbes’ Next Billion Dollar Startups 2025.
This is our 11th year producing this list, and we’ve gotta say: Our track record is pretty darn good. Of the 250 alumni, 140—or 56%—went on to become unicorns, including the likes of DoorDash, Figma and Anduril. Another 42 were acquired, while only two went public for less than $1 billion. And just five—2% of our selections—have imploded or shut down.
To qualify, startups must be venture-backed, based in the U.S. and (currently) worth less than $1 billion. Of our 25 picks this year, 20 are AI-focused, further highlighting the vast amount of money being poured into artificial intelligence.
From New York City tech outfit Basis, which makes AI accounting software that streamlines clerical work, to San Francisco-based Loyal’s development of a longevity pill aimed at extending the lives of pets, this year’s Next Billion Dollar Startups list is filled with forward-thinking companies that are poised to reshape their industries.
