England, 1348. Dorset has fallen victim to the Black Death, and no one knows what it is or how it spreads. The Church declares the sickness is God’s punishment, and the only cure is to flock to daily confession. Lady Anne of Devilish, however, has other plans. With her loyal steward Thaddeus at her side, she collects her serfs at Devilish’s walls, refusing entry to all outsiders—including her brutal husband. Unfortunately, the close quarters cause conflicts to break out. Cut off from the outside world, Lady Anne’s people are terrified of their uncertain futures. With food supplies dwindling, people start to get uneasy. Eventually, they’re going to have to cross the moat and encounter a world that has changed in ways they can’t fathom. |
