Since August is speedily winding down, I thought I’d post this New Yorker cartoon of mine for you today. I clearly remember the last days of August when I was a kid. It was unbelievable to me that the summer was actually ending. WHY? I can almost smell the air from those days. It wasn’t like I was one of those who hated school with a passion; I was the type who just went with the program, whatever it was. Easy-going, some would say. School did scare me though, in part because it was run by grown-ups, and grown-ups were frightening to me. They ask you questions. A few things from the news: anything from yesterday’s meeting with Zelensky, Trump and European leaders is really leading to nothing. After Trump had said that Putin would be fine with it, today he said the US will not send peace-keeping forces to Ukraine. And Putin plays down the idea of a Zelensky-Putin meeting. Overnight, Russia launched hundreds of missles into Ukraine. During the meeting yesterday, Trump left the table and went to have a 40 minute talk on the phone with Putin. Outrageous. Top Republicans say that the Justice Department will release some Epstein files, providing them on a rolling basis. Democrats on the Oversight Committee said, “Late or partial disclosures won’t cut it,” they wrote on social media. “Our committee wants transparency, and we can’t trust the DOJ to be honest.” We shall see, but by releasing them so slowly only more assuredly keeps the Epstein files in the news. Have a great day, everyone. Covid just about gone, I am heading to Maine to chill out a little. But I will be around! See you tomorrow. Thanks for being here.
