One of the stranger stories to come out of the Trump-Putin summit was the story of a man who was given a new motorcycle by Russian officials, who explained it was a “personal gift” from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In Anchorage, the leaders’ arrival was received with both rallies of support for the prospect of peace between Russia and Ukraine, and protests over the choice of Alaska as the site of a meeting that excluded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Critics said the meeting in Anchorage conferred legitimacy on Putin. Ukrainian bishops said that while the church preaches love and forgiveness, it “can never excuse or whitewash evil.”
The Alaska House and Senate are set to reconvene today for brief technical sessions, in which there will be no quorum and no business conducted, according to legislative leaders.
