As Red Sox manager Alex Cora emerged from the dugout to pull his starter with no outs and two runners aboard in the fifth inning, all Walker Buehler could do was shake his head.
Tuesday’s start against the Orioles was far from Buehler’s worst outing of the season; he navigated traffic early and ultimately yielded two runs on four hits and four walks in the Sox’ 4-3 extra innings defeat.
But with a fully-rested bullpen at his disposal, Cora began warming lefthanded reliever Justin Wilson once Buehler faced trouble in the fourth, and pulled the plug after Buehler yielded a double and a four-pitch walk to start the fifth.
