Crews are conducting sidewalk repairs on the north side of Columbia Pike between South Wakefield Street and South Thomas Street. Use crosswalks to detour on the south sidewalk.
Bus arriving to westbound stop at South Veitch St Street. The sidewalk was redone and a concrete bus pad installed in the lane in anticipation of a transit shelter.
Question:
What happens to bus stops that are within work zones, or located where sidewalks or the road lane is closed? How do I know what bus stop to use instead?
Answer:
The construction team coordinates with the Transit team to determine if a bus stop needs to be closed or relocated during work. Before a stop is closed or moved, the Transit team posts a sign at the stop telling passengers where to pick up service.
Stay in the Know
The Transit team also sends alerts directly to passengers through ART Alerts. Sign up today to get service updates directly to your phone.
Stops Right Now
Right now, the following bus stops on Columbia Pike Segments D and C are either closed or relocated:
- South Walter Reed Drive (east and westbound): relocated to South Highland Street
- South Barton Street eastbound: Relocated to in front of Celtic House
- South Barton Street westbound: Relocated to in front of Starbucks
- South Courthouse Road eastbound: Relocated about 200 feet west to in front of Dorchester Apartments
- South Scott Street eastbound: Relocated to corner, about 20 feet east
- South Scott Street westbound: closed; use South Veitch Street
Next Stop, Transit Stations
The Columbia Pike Multimodal Improvements project includes sidewalk improvements at bus stops, concrete bus pads in the travel lanes to better withstand the weight of stopped buses, and upgrades to street lights.
After construction is complete, the Columbia Pike Transit Stations project will install new bus shelters with digital signage and artwork inspired by the community.
