With a legacy role to uphold and eight shows a week on the calendar, Broadway star Christine Sherrill knows that staying centered is just as important as staying in character.
Playing Donna in Mamma Mia!’s limited-run Broadway revival, Christine is embodying a role that’s equal parts powerhouse and heart. But between each high-energy show, she finds her calm in pre-show rituals—which includes a devoted skincare routine she’s whipped up by KORRES—and chatting with her castmates. It’s all about endurance.
Off stage, Christine took time to talk to The Newsette about what she’s learned from the iconic role, her favorite new style statement, and how she keeps a clear complexion from curtain up to final bow.
Mamma Mia! is one of the most beloved musicals of all time—what’s it like stepping into such an iconic role every night?
I am beyond honored to play this role on Broadway. The score and story are so well crafted that it really allows me to tell a story that touches our audiences.
Walk us through your pre-show routine—from the moment you arrive at the theater to stepping onto the stage.
My dressing room is an oasis in this busy city. I start by turning on my vintage lamps, I fill and start my humidifiers, turn on my Bluetooth, and get to business. I sprawl out and do a few yoga postures that I know open up my diaphragm and release some tension in my neck and shoulders. Usually by then, visitors start arriving. My castmates will come in to catch up and share funny stories. There's always someone on my couch, and I love it.
How do you take care of your voice and body to keep up with such a demanding role?
Hydration is my most important goal. I've always relied on yoga and have recently added Pilates to keep my endurance up.
When the curtain comes down, what’s your favorite way to unwind after a show?
My castmates will come in and share a nightcap and snacks before we head home. Sometimes it's the first time we've seen each other off stage!
Eight shows a week means a lot of stage makeup—what’s your secret to keeping your skin healthy and glowing?
Oh, the way I cleanse after a show—let alone a two-show day! The KORRES Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser is the first cleanser I've used that allows me to double cleanse without drying my skin. It also smells dreamy.
Are there any beauty products or treatments you swear by for performance days?
The KORRES Greek Yoghurt Wide Awake Eye Gel is essential, especially when I'm headed in
