Osteopathic Medical Education
Marian University is working to address the shortage of primary care physicians in Indiana by expanding rural training and residency opportunities. The university's Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine is exposing students to rural medicine. Nearly one-third of Indiana residents live in medically underserved rural areas, where the shortage is most severe.
The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, led by Tracy Farnsworth, EdD, is working to address a critical physician shortage in the state by training doctors who are more likely to practice in primary care and rural areas. The school, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, has a faculty of experienced clinicians and biomedical instructors and recently welcomed its largest class of 226 students.
The Arkansas Colleges of Health Education and Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine have agreed to streamline the transition from ACHE's Master of Science in Biomedicine program to ARCOM's Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. Qualified MSB students will gain admission or an interview with ARCOM.
The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine has enrolled a record 203 first-year students.
Asia-La'Rae M. Walker, a medical student at the Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine, has been elected as a student member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine's board of directors. "In this role, I will contribute directly to discussions and decisions that shape the future of family medicine education, while also serving as a voting member on both the board of directors and the Medical Student Education Committee," Walker said.
