Fla. school district joins lawsuit targeting social media

The Martin County School District in Florida has joined a mass-action lawsuit against major social media companies, including Facebook, Snapchat and TikTok. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in California, alleges these platforms use addictive algorithms targeting children. More than 1,700 districts nationwide have joined the suit, which is set for trial in early 2026.

Tenn. eases rule for removal of students with disabilities
The Tennessee Board of Education has amended a rule to allow schools to temporarily remove students with disabilities from classrooms more quickly, even before a formal behavioral assessment is completed. The decision, which requires approval from a student's Individualized Education Program team, addresses safety concerns but has raised concerns among advocates about overuse and the need for better teacher training. The move does not impose new time limits for completing assessments.
