Airport Focus

Airport Director Chad Gehrke notes that the airport is now exploring new ways to serve the community, focusing less on student pilot training and more on diversifying its operations. The airport is making changes to its facilities, including repurposing former classroom space for events and business meetings, as it adapts to its new role within the city.

Morocco is nearing a $600 million deal with Embraer to acquire four to five KC-390 Millennium military transport planes, aiming to replace its aging fleet of C-130H aircraft. This move is part of Morocco's broader effort to modernize its military, with a defense budget of $13 billion for 2024. Meanwhile, Lockheed Martin is upgrading Morocco's existing C-130 fleet to maintain its market presence.

Pilot Spotlight
Lt. Col. Dean "Norm" Anderson of Winchester, Va., has received the Civil Air Patrol's Order of Daedalians Exceptional Instructor Pilot of the Year award for 2025. Anderson has volunteered hundreds of hours annually to mentor cadets, some of whom travel more than 50 miles for his instruction. Anderson also supports orientation flights in several states, serves as a mission pilot and assists the US Air Force's Rated Preparation Program.
