A study published in the journal eBioMedicine found that certain lipid metabolites, including linoleic acid and sphingomyelins, were negatively associated with excessive daytime sleepiness. The research, which involved data from populations in the US, UK and Finland, highlighted the connection between metabolism and sleep disorders and could lead to new treatments or dietary guidelines.

A meta-analysis in the journal BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders found total hip replacement surgery can improve function and relieve pain in patients with hemophilia, but clinicians and patients should be aware of risks such as bleeding and infection. Out of 190 surgeries, 175 resulted in successful outcomes, but bleeding, anemia and other complications were reported.

Prenatal exposure to the pesticide chlorpyrifos can significantly impair brain development and motor skills in children, according to a study published in JAMA Neurology. Researchers found that children exposed to chlorpyrifos in the womb show altered neuron development, reduced blood flow to the brain, and changes in brain structure.

Biologists are conducting tick surveys in Montana to track the movement of species as climate change shortens winters. They recently found deer ticks in northeastern Montana for the first time, raising concerns about Lyme disease. However, funding for such efforts is not always adequate. "The more we know about what's in Montana, the better we can inform our physicians, the better care you can receive," said Devon Cozart of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
Stimvia's Uris device, which uses peroneal electrical transcutaneous neuromodulation, has shown promise in improving symptoms of Parkinson's disease. A clinical study found that the device, used in combination with levodopa, improved daily functioning and quality of life, especially by reducing tremors.

The CMS will be sending lists to states each month identifying Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program enrollees "whose citizenship or immigration status could not be confirmed through federal databases," according to a CMS news release. The CMS has instructed state program administrators to verify the citizenship or immigration status of people on the list and adjust coverage or disenroll ineligible people.
Labcorp has introduced the Lumipulse pTau-217/Beta Amyloid 42 Ratio test, the first FDA-cleared blood-based diagnostic test for Alzheimer's disease in the US. Developed by Fujirebio Diagnostics, the test detects amyloid plaques using a blood draw, offering a less invasive and more accessible alternative to traditional methods like cerebrospinal fluid testing and PET scans.
The FDA has approved the first glucose monitoring system specifically for weight loss, offering a new weight management tool for Americans. The system, from Signos, utilizes a Dexcom continuous glucose monitor paired with an AI platform to provide personalized data and lifestyle recommendations.
