Each year, Arlington Addiction Recovery Initiative (AARI) hosts a candlelight vigil in observance of International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD)—a global day of remembrance for lives lost to drug overdose. For the past three years, the Arlington community has come together to honor those lost, support those who grieve, and raise awareness about the ongoing impacts of substance use. Attendees are invited to connect with storytellers sharing personal journeys of loss, recovery, and hope. The vigil culminates in a ceremony where names of loved ones are read aloud, followed by candles lit in their memory—a moving moment of unity, healing, and collective resolve.
Date: Thurs., Aug. 28 Time: 7 p.m. Location: Shirlington Library Plaza (4200 Campbell Ave.) Share a Flyer: Download International Overdose Awareness Vigil English-Spanish Flyer (PDF)
