Ayo Edebiri Steps Behind the Camera on The Bear—and Finds Her Calling |
The Bear star Ayo Edebiri is live-television gold. At the 2024 Golden Globes, for example, it looked like she was about to thank her agents and managers, when she tacked on the word assistants, earning a big laugh from the audience. “Thank you for answering my crazy, crazy emails!” she said, in a rare shout-out to the people who usually go unrecognized. “They do more work for me sometimes than the people who take my checks,” she tells Little Gold Men now. “Just kidding—I love you guys. Don’t blacklist me.” |
Edebiri’s humor—she rose the ranks as a stand-up comedian and writer before landing on The Bear—is among the reasons she’s become one of the most in-demand actors working today. But The Bear has also launched another dream role for her—as a director. She’s not only Emmy nominated for lead actress, but also for directing on a comedy series after helming the episode “Napkins” from the show’s third season. “I think I will eventually direct a feature. I know that I will, but I feel no real rush,” she says.
On this week’s episode of Little Gold Men, Edebiri revealed how she ended up writing an episode for The Bear’s fourth season, how she’s navigating her busy acting career now, and why it would be “chaos” if Syd and Carmy ever got together. (They won’t!) |
