The future of one of our biggest employers, historically linked to the identity of the city of Wollongong, is one that continues to fascinate and shape the city. BlueScope handed down its annual full year profit this week, which dropped considerably from a year ago. But our story by Kelly Fuller tackles so many different aspects of the company's operations, from gas policy to offshore wind energy, and the impacts of recently imposed US tariffs on steel exported from Australia. There really is a lot to digest when it comes to making steel.
Julia, the play about Australia's first female prime minister Julia Gillard which was inspired by her misogyny speech, is coming to Wollongong. Playwright Joanna Murray-Smith came to Wollongong for a special night of conversation with our ABC Illawarra Breakfast presenter Melinda James. You can listen to the conversation by clicking the link below.
And as finals season rapidly approaches for the winter sporting codes there's a long read on St George Illawarra player Ben Murdoch-Masila, who at 34 years old will return to 1st grade where he played 15 years ago. It's a unique journey and one he must be deeply proud of. Enjoy.
Have a great week, and remember, if you have a story idea drop an email to 973@your.abc.net.au.
