Registered dietitian nutritionist Lauren Manaker and RD Micah Siva highlight six foods that support healthy aging by providing essential nutrients and reducing disease risks. Eggs provide amino acids, which aid muscle mass and cognitive function. Dairy supplies calcium and vitamin D for bone health. Prunes, with vitamin K and potassium, support bone density and gut health. Fiber-dense foods improve digestion and manage cholesterol. Oily fish provide omega-3s to benefit heart and brain health. Walnuts offer anti-inflammatory benefits and antioxidants. These foods collectively contribute to maintaining vitality and preventing age-related diseases.

Dietary Health
Frozen yogurt, a popular treat from past decades, is making a comeback, with new shops opening and gaining attention on social media. Registered dietitian nutritionists Julie Stefanski, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and Emily Villaseca explore the nutritional differences between frozen yogurt and ice cream, and their pros and cons. Ice cream typically contains higher milk fat due to cream, while frozen yogurt is made from cultured milk, potentially offering lower fat content. However, recent trends show some frozen yogurt products incorporating whole milk and cream, blurring the lines between the two desserts.
Supermodel Heidi Klum has sparked interest in parasite cleanses after revealing she and her husband are undergoing a months-long detox to rid their bodies of worms and parasites. While Klum suggests annual cleanses, registered dietitian nutritionist Sue-Ellen Anderson-Haynes, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and infectious disease specialist Amy Edwards caution that such practices are unnecessary for most Americans due to low infection rates and access to clean water and food. They warn that these cleanses, popularized on social media, may pose health risks and emphasize consulting health care professionals for concerns about parasites. "We have to remember that we have a balance in our system already," Anderson-Haynes said.

The review of 20 studies found a modest average weight loss of about 4.2 pounds among participants taking the supplements, with greater reductions in those with a body mass index under 30.
Older adults who had an average of one type of cardiovascular disease were less adherent to Life's Essential 8 lifestyle factors than those who did not have cardiovascular disease, according to a study in the Journal of the American Heart Association. Prevention & Well-Being
Insomnia and sleep deprivation are becoming recognized as a public health emergency in the US, with chronic insomnia affecting approximately 12% of Americans, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The impact extends beyond sleep difficulties, contributing to daytime fatigue, low motivation, depression, anxiety and increased vulnerability to illness, experts say, adding that cognitive behavioral therapy can be an effective treatment.
A study in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that keeping blood pressure to below 120 systolic may be more protective against heart attacks, strokes, heart failure and other cardiac problems than using higher target levels. The strategy also was linked to only a small increase in the cost of treatments.
