Garrett Crochet returned to his regularly scheduled dominance Monday night in the Red Sox’ 7-0 win over the Athletics, a performance as reassuring as it was imposing.
He rolled through seven low-stress innings on 101 pitches, racking up 10 strikeouts — no walks — and working around three hits. It qualified as one of his best starts in a season full of good ones.
For the Red Sox, who parlayed their ace’s gem with a balanced offensive performance, it made for a second win in a row. They are 80-65, one win shy of their total from last year.
For Crochet, it was a stark but unsurprising return to form after a six-inning, seven-run, four-homer mess last week against the Guardians.
“He bounced back,” Trevor Story said. “That’s what the big boys do.”
