| Hello. Israel has carried out a strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar's capital, Doha. My colleagues have the latest. In this week's episode of From Our Own Correspondent, Yogita Limaye explains how the Taliban restricted access to women in the aftermath of the earthquake in Afghanistan. And finally, find out how an Italian town celebrated its ties to Scotland. | |

| | Qatar has been acting as a mediator to end the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas. Credit: Reuters | Hamas said its leadership team has survived an Israeli strike in Qatar, but that six people, including the son of a lead negotiator and a Qatari security official, have been killed. Here's what to know. Qatar has condemned the attack as a "blatant violation" of international laws. The strike follows the announcement of a US proposal to end the war between Israel and Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the conflict could "end immediately" if the proposal was accepted. But if US-led peace efforts were faltering badly before, writes international editor Jeremy Bowen, now they are in ruins. |

| Women excluded from quake stories | | Stories of the trauma faced by women after the earthquake are unlikely ever to be heard. Credit: Getty Images | From Our Own Correspondent: The earthquake that hit Afghanistan on 31 August destroyed homes, triggered landslides and killed around 1400 people. It did not, however, shake up the Taliban's strict rules restricting women's visibility in society. |

| | As the helicopter landed, dust flew off the ground. Dozens of Taliban men ran towards it carrying stretchers. One by one, the injured were brought out. We were told, aggressively and repeatedly, not to film any of the women.
In a country where women are barred from secondary and higher education, and not allowed to work in most sectors, the orders were unsurprising, but it was another insight into the Taliban government’s policies towards women. It's also the reason why women have been less visible in the coverage of the earthquake – though among the injured I saw at the airfield, nearly half were women. |
