An illustration shows a scene on the Seine River in Paris. Boats are moored along the banks, and a woman stands on the deck of one, her back to the viewer, as she looks out over the scene before her: a narrow stone bridge, trees, stately buildings, the river itself, and in the distance, the Eiffel Tower rising up beneath a sky with billowing gray clouds.

A room in an ornate 19th-century mansion is filled with Asian curios, some in glass display cases scattered around the room, which has a very high arched doorway that leads to another room where chandeliers dangle and blurred objects can be glimpsed on the wall and elsewhere. Three people examine the exhibits, including a woman who is peering closely into one of the glass display cases.
