The Ordway's 40th anniversary season pairs Broadway blockbusters with concerts, dance and holiday traditions in downtown St. Paul, making it the perfect time to learn why it's earned the title of Minnesota's Broadway home.

Here's why: The performing arts center is marking the milestone with a season to welcome both first-timers and longtime fans alike.

What's in store: Seven musicals spanning genres and generations anchor the year, and this season's Broadway lineup has something for everyone.

  • Family favorites: "The Addams Family" and "Mrs. Doubtfire."
  • Holiday shows: "The Notebook" and "Jesus Christ Superstar."
  • For theater lovers: "Kimberly Akimbo", "Spamalot" and "SIX."

Here's what else: Beyond Broadway, the Ordway's stages light up with concerts and special performances that span rock, holiday and dance.

  • Classic Albums Live will recreate the Rolling Stones' "Sticky Fingers" in October and the Eagles' "Greatest Hits" in March.
  • December brings holiday performances with "Celtic Family Christmas" and the powerhouse trio, The String Queens.
  • In February, Sounds of Blackness honors Martin Luther King Jr.
  • The Syncopated Ladies close the series in March with a high-energy tap showcase.

Even better: Save up to 10% when you purchase tickets for three or more shows this season.

For 40 years, the Ordway has anchored St. Paul's cultural scene.

  • This season honors that legacy while inviting new audiences to imagine the next 40.

Take note: It all begins Sept. 21 with a free Open House, offering mini-performances, backstage access and family activities.
