Conservatives across Massachusetts are expressing outrage and calling for prayer after Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was shot during a campus event in Utah on Wednesday.

Authorities said Kirk was in critical condition after a gunman opened fire at Utah Valley University, where he was speaking under a tent marked with the slogans “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong," The Associated Press reports.

Videos show Kirk clutching his neck as blood poured out, and police quickly confirmed a suspect was in custody.

Republican leaders and activists in Massachusetts swiftly condemned the shooting as an act of political violence.
