What's the story? Popular right-wing podcaster Charlie Kirk has been shot dead, US President Donald Trump says.

The 31-year-old was shot while speaking at a university campus in Utah. Vision circulating shows Kirk seated under a tarpaulin and addressing the crowd when he appears to be shot in the upper body.

FBI director Kash Patel says the agency is "closely monitoring" reports and will be standing ready to assist.
