Popular MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk — shot in the neck this afternoon while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah — has died at 31, President Trump said and Kirk's spokesman confirmed.

• Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, was a major figure in conservative media and especially influential with Trump's younger supporters.

A single shot was heard after Kirk began speaking, university spokesman Scott Trotter said.

• The shooter is still at large.

Trump posted on Truth Social: "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
