Meanwhile, weight-loss treatments show no sign of dropping out of the headlines, and this weekend a major pharmaceutical company, Lilly, revealed its brand-new pill. While the UK is understandably excited about these developments, my colleague Alicja Hagiopan and I obtained exclusive analysis examining whether it really is the best – and only – solution to the obesity crisis.

And while we’re talking about keeping fit and looking after ourselves, longevity is back in the spotlight. Some remain sceptical, but this week one GP specialising in longevity shared the simple daily changes  she’s made to improve her health – and they might surprise you.

When the government unveiled its rankings for NHS trust performance, almost all major health trusts – including the King’s Fund, Nuffield Trust and Health Foundation – warned that the tables might be of little use to patients, who could struggle to interpret them.

Health secretary Wes Streeting fired back, dismissing the criticism as “elitist nonsense.”

As a journalist, I have to side with the think tanks on this one: the league tables are confusing for several reasons.

For starters, it’s hard to translate the scoring system into what patients will actually experience on the ground. Sure, some issues – like waiting times for operations and A&E – are immediately recognisable.
