This week White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles described to Scott Jennings her reaction to the news of the assassination of Charlie Kirk: “I called everybody in before they went home last night and said, ‘Go home, hug your children, hug your spouse, be careful, take precautions — and don’t let your voice get softer. Charlie would want everybody to speak as they had been and more.’” What a simple and beautiful rejection of the assassin’s veto. Kirk’s murder is a tragedy for his friends and family. For the country, it was also a frontal assault on free speech and must not be allowed to succeed. We will know more about the crime in the days ahead but it certainly
appears that the alleged shooter was motivated to silence political speech, and seems to have swallowed completely the leftist propaganda painting Kirk as a fascist. The Journal’s Joseph De Avila and Gareth Vipers report: Investigators discovered a bolt action rifle wrapped in a dark towel in a nearby wooded area on the edge of the college campus, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said. They also found several bullet casings with various inscriptions. One of the inscriptions read: “Hey fascist! Catch!” More exercise of our First Amendment liberties is the best way to ensure that the assassin has failed.
