Volunteers needed for Family Vision Group
The FCPS Family Vision Group is a thriving collaboration and communication between home and school. Under the leadership of FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid, we're committed to fostering an environment where every voice is heard and valued. Through district-wide discussions, we provide updates, solicit feedback, and address concerns because we believe the strength of our students lies in the robust partnerships forged between families and schools. We invite you to be a part of our children's educational journey because this work truly matters!
The FCPS Family Vision Group cultivates a community where respect and civility are the cornerstones of every conversation. We envision a space where active listening and open-mindedness lead the way to meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding. We see our discussions as opportunities for learning and growth, where every voice is valued, and every perspective adds to our collective knowledge. We will embrace the opportunity to expand our understanding by appreciating the insights shared by others. Together, we can create a culture of empathy, collaboration, and unity.
If you are interested in serving as our school’s representative for the FCPS Family Vision Group, please email Mr. Blount to express your interest.

Twice-Exceptional (2e) learners are students who are gifted and have learning challenges or disabilities.
2e students can thrive when...
- Individualized & flexible instruction is responsive to students’ strengths, disabilities, and challenges.
- Supports, accommodations, and/or services help them access instruction and demonstrate understanding.
- Social-emotional learning and accompanying strategies build their confidence, skills, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
- Collaborative teams (including the student, teachers, support staff, and families) design and adjust plans that affirm their identities and experiences.
How do families and staff partner?
We believe strong partnerships and active communication between schools and families are key to supporting 2e students. Together, we:
- Collaborate in the identification, evaluation, and instructional planning processes to understand student strengths, needs, and goals.
- Communicate regularly about progress, supports, strategies, and wellness.
- Engage in decision-making processes about course selection, accommodations, and specialized instruction and/or services (when applicable).
- Assume collective responsibility to co-create environments where students can thrive.
What are some ways families can support 2e students at home?
Family expertise is a critical component of student success. Families are encouraged to:
- Recognize and celebrate effort as well as achievement.
- Support your child’s strengths and help them navigate struggles.
- Provide opportunities for your child to consider and express ways in which they learn best. Teach self-advocacy at home and school.
- Reach out to the school team if you see signs of stress, withdrawal, or burnout
