Fatal gyrocopter crash: A gyrocopter pilot has died after crashing into bushland near Nebo on Sunday. Police and fire crews were called to bushland near Nebo Creek about 6pm after reports of a helicopter crashing and catching alight. Four fire crews took about an hour to extinguish a blaze at the site. Police say the pilot died at the scene and was the only person onboard. The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating.
Heat records: The sweltering temperatures will ease this weekend, but a number of records were broken on Thursday. Rockhampton reached a top of 39 degrees, the hottest October temperature since 2019, when it reached 41 degrees on October 31. Biloela also hit 37 degrees, the hottest October day since 2019. The bureau says this week's soaring temperatures were unusual, but a southerly change today (Friday) should cool things down.
