TOP OF THE AGENDA | Israeli military says ceasefire in effect after IDF pulls back from parts of Gaza |
|
| | The Israeli military began withdrawing from parts of Gaza on Friday morning. Credit: EPA/Shutterstock | A ceasefire has come into effect in Gaza and the Israeli military has withdrawn to agreed lines but will continue to "remove any immediate threat", the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has said. It comes after the Israeli government last night approved a deal with Hamas. Now that the initial stages have reportedly been completed, Hamas has 72 hours to release all Israeli hostages, while Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian detainees. Aid trucks are also expected to be sent in to help Gaza's two million people, most of whom have been displaced. As Gaza City residents return to neighbourhoods they have found "unprecedented devastation", Gaza correspondent Rushdi Abualouf reports. |
