 If you’d like to get involved and help support these events, you can become a member of the PTA here. To learn more about what your PTA membership helps contribute to, and practical ways you can get involved, you are invited to join us for monthly PTA meetings in the Gunston cafeteria or on Zoom.
On October 16th, 2025, Mount Vernon District Representative Mateo Dunne came to the Gunston Elementary School PTA meeting to share ways the community can take action and make our voices heard about proposed boundary changes.

In scenario 4, Gunston changes from a 2 split feeder middle school to 3 split feeder middle school, net gain of almost 100 students which means all classrooms and modulars used (no space for specialists or support personnel), Hagel Circle students would come to Gunston, some current
Gunston students would go to Island Creek
At the PTA meeting, several concerns were made about this scenario including: the trailers being unsafe, Gunston’s infrastructure (specifically being on septic system), and students not being together if some are sent to a different school (Island Creek).
HOW TO HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD:
- Community Meeting (virtual and in person at Hayfield cafeteria)- Wednesday, October 22 6:30-8PM. The more who show up and voice their opinion, the better!
- FCPSboundaryreview.org- click the orange “Comment” button on bottom right, put place marker on Gunston Elementary School and put in comments/desires. This can be done as many times as you want/can!
- Contact Mr. Dunne- mountvernon@fcps.edu with your comments/concerns so he can compile them for the voting committee.
Please share widely and make your voices heard!
