Key Center Awarded as a Virginia Distinguished Purple Star School
For the third cycle in a row, each cycle is 3 years, our school has been named a Virginia Distinguished Purple Star School! This is a very special honor from the state of Virginia. It means we do a superior job of supporting all the students and families who are connected to the military. When a military family moves, it can be hard to change schools, but we work hard to make sure that students from military connected families feel welcome, supported, and ready to learn. This sustained success is a direct result of the commitment and consistent coordination led by our Assistant Principal Emily Kaltenmark.

Attendance- When Should Your Child Stay Home?
Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick or showing symptoms of becoming sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit the FCPS website for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and our school. Staying home when sick helps reduce the likeliness of illnesses spreading to other students, staff and other school community members becoming sick.
Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why your child is absent and how long your child may be home to rest and recover.

Bringing Imaginary Pets to Life: How Our Speech Therapists Used AI to Boost Student Learning
Our school's amazing speech therapists (SLPs), Aimee Rand, Katie Huynh, and Rachael Ackerman, recently used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make learning fun for all the students. They led a project where every class got to invent their own imaginary class pet. Students made choices to pick things like the pet's color, fur, or wings. Then, the AI tool on Canva instantly created an awesome digital picture of their pet! Going above and beyond, SLP Aimee Rand then sewed and stuffed physical, cuddly versions of the AI pets. You can access the full story on our school website.
