It’s a Pink-Out!
 |
|
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the UMES SCA is holding a Pink-Out Spirit Day on Friday, October 24th. All students are invited to wear pink to celebrate. If a student does not have something pink, white or red can be substituted. |
Zones of Regulation
We are excited to roll out a new school-wide self-regulation curriculum: Zones of Regulation! Classroom teachers have begun conducting lessons to help students identify, address, and use strategies to achieve self-control and emotional regulation. The curriculum will give our community a common language and practical strategies for navigating emotions.
Come join us on Friday, October 24th for Morning Meeting in your child’s classroom followed by a Principal’s Coffee at 8:30 am in the cafeteria to learn more about how we are utilizing this new program at Union Mill.
⏰ K-12 School Start Times Project Update at Thursday’s School Board Meeting
In January 2023, the School Board awarded a contract for the study of middle school start times and the development of alternatives for later start times.
Transportation Services developed an alternative that meets the Board’s expressed preferences. This, along with an alternative from Prismatic, the consultant, that would shift all school start times forward 30 minutes, was presented to the Board and shared at community boundary review meetings to help inform the decision process.
A presentation at the Thursday, October 23 School Board meeting will provide a brief update on the K-12 start times project. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Find out how to watch and participate in School Board meetings.
Federal Impact Aid Survey
Beginning Tuesday, October 21st, the Federal Impact Aid Survey will be available in ParentVue and can be filled out by the enrolling parent. Please help UMES to conserve resources by completing this form ONLINE following these simple steps:

Veterans Day Concert
Veterans Day Concert – Honoring Our Heroes
Please join us for our Veterans Day Concert on Wednesday, November 12th at 6:00 PM in the Union Mill cafeteria. As a proud Purple Heart School, Union Mill is committed to honoring the brave men and women who have served — and those who continue to serve — in our nation’s military.
This special evening will feature a performance by our 5th and 6th grade chorus members as we come together as a community to express our gratitude and respect for our veterans and active-duty service members.
Families are encouraged to invite the heroes in their lives to attend. We look forward to sharing this meaningful event with you!
Advanced Academic Information
Families who were unable to attend the Continuum of Services Parent Information session can access a copy of the slides on Union Mill’s AAP webpage or by clicking here. Families are invited to learn more about the process and ask their questions November 12, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. in the Library.
The deadline for Full Time Screening referrals is December 15, 2025. This is a firm County-set deadline.
