| | | | | | | Hello. US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping have held trade talks in South Korea. My colleagues explain what it all means. As the Dutch election results are finalised, Europe digital editor Paul Kirby profiles the man who could become the country's youngest-ever leader. And finally, read messages left in a bottle at sea by two WWI soldiers. | |     |

 | | | | | | China's retaliatory tariffs on soybeans have harmed US farmers - a key voting block for Trump. Credit: Reuters | | Trump has hailed "an amazing" meeting with Xi, despite the absence of a formal agreement. While details of a deal are being negotiated behind the scenes, the US president has announced he will lower tariffs levied on Beijing over the flow of ingredients used to make fentanyl "effective immediately" - although it seems other tariffs will remain in place. He also said China has agreed to suspend export restrictions on rare earths, crucial for the production of everything from smartphones to fighter jets, and to resume buying soybeans and other farm products. China's reaction to the talks was more subdued, saying the two sides reached a consensus to resolve "major trade issues". |

 |
 | | | | | | | | Jetten's party slogan "Het kan wel" is an optimistic phrase that borrows from Barack Obama's "Yes, we can". Credit: Reuters | | After a bruising loss for his centrist liberal party two years ago, D66 leader Rob Jetten has mastered the art of TV appearances and debates to rival Geert Wilders' Freedom Party in the tight race of the Dutch elections. Now, as the final votes are counted, it's possible Jetten could become the country's youngest, and first openly gay, prime minister. |
