Blue Angels make rare, low passes over D.C. landmarks
The US Navy Blue Angels returned to the skies over Washington, D.C., with a flyover of the National Mall on Tuesday. The demonstration team made several low passes over prominent landmarks, including the Washington Monument and US Capitol, as crowds and social media users captured the rare event. The performance was a brief but notable appearance during a period when most of their scheduled shows had been canceled due to the government shutdown.

Army expands Chinook fleet
The US Army has placed an order for nine additional CH-47F Block II Chinook helicopters from Boeing, valued at $461 million. This purchase was made through two contract awards (Lots 4 and 5) and is part of the Army's ongoing efforts to modernize its heavy-lift helicopter fleet.

N.C. airport eyes digital remote tower for ATC
Johnston Regional Airport in Smithfield, N.C., is aiming to be the first in the US to implement a digital remote tower, a modern air traffic control system that uses live video, high-tech cameras and radar. The Federal Aviation Administration is testing the system in Atlantic City, N.J., as a solution to the air traffic controller shortage. "The expectation is that it will be much more effective than a human being in a tower with a set of binoculars," says Johnston Regional Airport Director David Harris.

SAF market to reach $312B by 2029, driven by green shift

Longtime volunteer pilot to lead Air Care Alliance
The Air Care Alliance has named pilot Mark Hanson as president, succeeding the late Jim Hesseman. Hanson, who has served as the nonprofit's vice president and board member since 2020, is a FAASTeam Safety Representative and has completed over 500 volunteer missions for various charitable aviation organizations, demonstrating his dedication to public benefit flying. Representing over 60 volunteer pilot groups nationwide, the Air Care Alliance helps coordinate free air transportation for medical, community and humanitarian needs, and acts as a resource hub for volunteer pilots.

Pa. universities to launch aviation management degrees
Moravian University in Bethlehem, Pa., and DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa., will each launch bachelor of science degrees in aviation management in fall 2026. Moravian's program, in partnership with flyGATEWAY Aviation Institute, will offer aviation management and professional pilot training, with flight training at Lehigh Valley International Airport. DeSales will collaborate with Penn Flight Academy, offering tracks for commercial pilots and flight instructors. Both programs aim to address the growing need for aviation professionals.
