Gusty winds add extra chill to the air as we watch the next rainmakers |
The winds have returned! Gusts will top 40 mph in many spots as a storm intensifies over eastern Nova Scotia Tuesday. If you’re counting, this will be the second storm to rapidly intensify (what is known as bombogenesis) in less than a week (the Halloween storm being the other). To top it all off, we’ll see one more “bomb out” on Thursday – again increasing our winds and drawing in colder air. (For the record, there could be one more on Monday of next week…yikes) What does this mean? Why are these storms intensifying so quickly? Simply put, we’re in hotbed of storm development; technically the base of an upper-level trough. This can be a nothingburger if you’re not near the intensifying storm(s). But it does keep the wind and chilly air around. Any shift in the track of these deep, juicy storms, and we could see flakes mix in with the rain. It’s that kind of pattern. High volatility and vigilance. |

| At 35 days, the shutdown has now tied the record for longest in history |
The lengthy standoff between President Donald Trump and congressional Democratic leaders is poised to become the longest government shutdown in American history this week. Election Day on Tuesday, when voters will head to the polls in Virginia, New Jersey and New York, will tie the record for the longest shutdown. If the shutdown continues into Wednesday, which lawmakers believe is almost certain, it will shatter that record, set during Trump’s first term. That 35-day federal closure in late 2018 and early 2019 resulted from a fight over Trump’s demand for a border wall, which Democrats refused to fund. |
