"What Happened Now?" is a lively roundup and analysis of the top stories of the day in Northeast Ohio from News 5's Joe Donatelli. It’s like getting the news from a friend who will always root for Parma, the most East Side of all the West Side suburbs.
Both of these things are a big deal: General Motors is committing roughly $250 million to its Parma Metal Center, which produces sheet-metal stampings and assemblies for a wide range of GM vehicles built across North America. The new investment is intended to support equipment upgrades, maintain production flexibility and reinforce the company's domestic supply chain. Over in Lorain County, Republic Steel's parent company, Grupo Simec, headquartered in Mexico, is in discussions with several international steel producers to establish production in Lorain. According to the mayor's office, international steel producers see a strategic and economic advantage to having a facility in the United States.
Bernie update: He’s up and walking around and even cracking Bill Belichick jokes, reports John Kosich.
This story is a freaking delight: A local humane society has more than $272,000 that has never been claimed from the state. They had no idea. Until reporter Clay LePard showed up and told them.
Unusual vending machine at Beachwood Place: Unlike most vending machines, which dispense sugar or sugar drinks, this one does not. This one is for giving to charity. Kind of a cool idea.
Local governments have paid out more than $1 million to thieves over the last two years: How? They were tricked. (Relentless sighing sounds.) Watch Scott Noll’s report.
Interesting piece of Cleveland sports trivia: JFK was assassinated in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963. On Nov. 24, the NFL went ahead with its games, with Dallas traveling to Cleveland. Owner Art Modell issued an order to the team’s public address announcer: Don’t say the word, “Dallas.” Cleveland.com has the rest of the story.
