After starting an effective hair loss treatment, clinical studies show you can often 'rewind the clock' on your hair loss by 6-36 months.

In other words, your hair might look like it did nearly 1-3 years before starting any hair loss treatment.

That doesn't sound so bad! And yet...

There are clearly some mega-responders to hair loss treatments. We've all seen them: people who go from nearly-bald to fully-haired in just 6-12 months.

And assuming their results are real (and not obfuscated by lighting, camera angles, hair fibers, and other tricks), it begs the question...

Why do some people get massive hair gains after using the same treatments that other people try with minimal (if any) results?

There's actually a scientific explanation for this. We dive into it in this video -- including photo examples of these mega-responders (and how it happened).

The gist? Your response to hair loss treatments is determined largely by:

• Kenogen hairs (i.e., your hairs 'trapped' between hair cycles).
• Arrector pili (i.e., the 'goosebump' muscles attached to your hair follicles).
• Perifollicular fibrosis (i.e., scarring around your hair follicles).

If you have more kenogen hairs, more intact arrector pili, and less perifollicular fibrosis... you get a bigger response to hair loss treatments, and vice-versa.

In fact, current consensus is that these are the rate-limiting recovery factors for androgenic alopecia. Because, according to studies, even the 'best' medical therapies can't reattach a detached arrector pili... or significantly reverse fibrosis.

This is the core reason why many people emphasize starting treatments early. The sooner you start, the sooner you can take advantage of that 6-36 month recovery window, and the better your hair might look in 1, 2, 5, or 10+ years.

I agree with this consensus, and by extension, the emphasis to start treatments sooner than later...

Nonetheless, I disagree with one key aspect: that it's impossible to regrow hair after (1) perifollicular fibrosis sets in, and (2) arrector pili muscles have detached from your hair follicles.

Why do I disagree? Because there are cases where arrector pili reattachment & the reversal of perifollicular fibrosis have happened... and fully by accident.

This has happened in accidental minoxidil overdoses and in accidental burn injuries, amongst other case reports:

In fact, there was even a study that inadvertently showed that fully-miniaturized, vellus human hairs could regenerate just as well -- and sometimes even thicker than non-balding, fully-thick hairs -- when transplanted into immunosuppressed regions with very low DHT. We discuss this finding in the new video.

Suffice it to say: this evidence is what makes me hopeful that full hair regrowth is possible, sooner or later... even if we can't quite consistently replicate it with medical therapy (for now).

One potential pathway? Perhaps through repurposed drugs that (1) lower DHT and (2) suppress the scalp's immune system -- alongside the activation of key wound-healing pathways.
