Air pollution exposure raises coronary artery disease risks

A study presented at a Radiological Society of North America conference found long-term exposure to air pollution was associated with more advanced obstructive coronary artery disease on cardiac CT imaging. "The results of this study add to the growing body of evidence that air pollution is a modifiable cardiovascular risk factor and reinforce the need for further research to understand why these associations differ between men and women," said researcher Dr. Kate Hanneman.

Semaglutide tied to cardiovascular benefits
A study published in The Lancet found semaglutide improved cardiovascular outcomes for patients with overweight or obesity but without diabetes, regardless of their baseline adiposity. ACC issues guidance on front-of-package nutrition labeling
A Concise Clinical Guidance report from the American College of Cardiology supports the FDA's proposal to require front-of-package nutrition labeling on food products, citing the potential to improve diet quality, reduce cardiovascular disease risk and advance equity in public health. The FDA proposal would require manufacturers to add boxes to the front of packages showing levels of sodium, added sugar and saturated fat, according to the clinical guidance in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Legislation aims to improve access to AI medical devices
US Reps. John Joyce, R-Pa., and Scott Peters, D-Calif., have introduced the Health Tech Investment Act, which aims to improve access to AI-enabled medical devices by ensuring payment for innovative technologies. It would give all FDA-approved AI devices a new classification in the hospital outpatient payment system.

Pilot program for digital health tools launched by FDA
The FDA has introduced the Technology-Enabled Meaningful Patient Outcomes pilot program to accelerate the market entry of digital health technologies for chronic diseases. The program will work within the CMS' Advancing Chronic Care with Effective, Scalable Solutions model to improve access to health technologies for conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic pain and depression. Up to 10 device manufacturers in four clinical areas will be selected to participate in the initiative, which will collect real-world performance data.
